Spanish Table With Lyre Leg And Iron Fasteners, 18th Century.
Spanish table with lyre legs and iron brackets, 18th century.
The two lyre legs that support the work have wavy lines on their lower part and shapes on the sides reminiscent of those of French cabriolets. Both are joined by an iron bracket and support a single board with carved edges. This type of legs, called lyre legs because of their resemblance to the musical instrument, was widely used during the Renaissance and continued to be so afterward due to the movement that their curved profiles brought to the piece of furniture. -
