"Florence 1820-1840, Two Plates In Sterling Silver, Arms Of Bishop Gioacchino Cantagalli"
Very fine pair of circular plates or offering dishes with the hallmarks of the city of Florence for the first half of the nineteenth century. They are engraved with the arms of Monsignor Gioacchino Cantagalli. Gioacchino Cantagalli, born in Faenza on August 18, 1825, completed his studies in literature and sacred sciences in Faenza with the Fathers of the Society of Jesus; until 1855, he taught dogmatic theology in his own seminary and governed the parishes of SS Vitale and Clemente first and of SS. Philip and James then. He was consecrated Bishop of Cagli and Pergola in his own parish church by concession of Pius IX on October 29, 1876 and on December 3 of the same year he made his solemn entry into Cagli; On March 27, 1885, he returned to his native land and became Bishop of Faenza. He died there in 1912. The two dishes weigh 1140 grams.
