"Germain Chayé Received In 1755 - Sterling Silver Salt Scoop /marrow Extractor, 18th Century"
Beautiful solid silver spoon, threaded model, dual-purpose (salt spoon and marrow extractor for each end). On the back, hallmark of the silversmith Germain Chayé, received as a master in Paris on May 7, 1755, elected Guard several times. Letter-date hallmark: V crowned for Paris 1760. Charge and Discharge (means and small works). Germain Chayé was the apprentice of the master silversmith Claude Dargent (the latter, very famous for his sponge balls). He began his apprenticeship at the age of 15 and a half, was received as a master in 1755 and stamped two hallmarks. He was the son of the master cobbler Antoine Chayé. On this spoon, his hallmark is partial but perfectly identifiable. The spoon is in excellent condition, some normal wear on the tip of the scoop. It weighs 14 gr for a total length of 14.5 cm.
