A Pair of Empire gilt and patinated bronze candlesticks. The circular base is surrounded by palmettes, the fluted shaft topped with three antique women's heads and ending on feet. Flames emerge from the socket. The pieces are signed with the monogram L M.
Ludwig Mangeot (1777-1846).
Early 19th century.
Very good condition (original fire gilding).
Height: 30 cm X Diameter: 12.5 cm.

The French-born bronzier Ludwig Mangeot was trained by Rung in Stockholm. Over time, Mangeot created his own workshop and thus competed with Rung for the sale of bronze objects. His multifaceted production included all kinds of objects such as candelabras, candlesticks, table plates and porphyry object stands. Mangeot received numerous orders from royal castles. The quality of Mangeot's work in chasing and burnishing is of a very high international standard, but objects by his hand are relatively rare today.
