Object description :

"Small Curved Chest Of Drawers Stamped Migeon"
Small two-drawer chest of drawers without a front crossbar, stamped Migeon, in satinwood and violet wood.

Slightly curved on all sides, it features a delicate foliage bouquet decoration in violet wood on a satinwood background, very finely inlaid. They are subtly framed by a geometric decoration of a double boxwood border, forming Greek motifs at the corners, emphasizing the visual balance of the composition.

The richness of the finely chiseled gilt bronze ornamentation gives this chest of drawers a prestigious character: The front is adorned at the Greek-style corners with four circular gilt bronze pieces, a similar motif found in the center of the circular pull handles, themselves defined by floral garlands.
The two keyholes feature an animated decoration of beaded acanthus leaves and scrolls.
The central panel is enlivened with acanthus decoration and architectural elements, thus playing on the dynamic curve of the silhouette.

It features beautiful and delicate falling lion heads framed by scalloped garlands, symbols of strength and nobility.
The slightly curved and offset legs are finished with graceful gilt bronze hooves with a foliate motif, elegantly extending the fluid lines of the piece.

The top is adorned with a beautiful Aleppo breccia marble, cut in a double corbin pattern.

With its fine, meticulous, and delicate workmanship and its decorative refinement, this chest of drawers is a very good example of fine Transitional period furniture. Both elegant and refined, it perfectly illustrates the talent of Migeon, a great master cabinetmaker of the Louis XV and Transition periods.

Transitional period work stamped by Pierre Migeon (received master in 1761)

A renowned 18th-century Parisian cabinetmaker, Pierre Migeon distinguished himself from his contemporaries not by his overly elaborate marquetry or a profusion of ornaments, but by his elegant craftsmanship, focused on the beauty of the woods and refined geometric decorations.
His works were less ostentatious than those of Oeben or Cressent, but they were distinguished by their subtlety and quality of execution; sinuous, curved lines, exotic woods such as violet wood, amaranth, rosewood, and palisander, crafted with meticulous care, and motifs that frequently included frills, herringbone, and geometric marquetry.
The elegant simplicity of his compositions embodies exceptional craftsmanship and timeless elegance, testament to the great tradition of French cabinetmaking.

This chest of drawers perfectly illustrates the refined taste and expertise of this great cabinetmaker.
