Pair of gilt bronze torches, model with thunderbolts attributed to Claude Galle. A pair was delivered for the Palace of Fontainebleau in 1804. Resting on a circular base chiseled with thunderbolts, the usual attributes of Zeus attesting to his power! "In all mythologies, the place where the God strikes with lightning is sacred, the man he strikes is consecrated." The shaft is quiver-shaped, the socket is decorated with a double row of water leaves. The original bobeches are present. The period gilding is very well preserved without stain!
