Silver Chalice, Montpellier 1763 – Goldsmith Marc Bazille
Cast, embossed and chased silver chalice, resting on a stepped circular base decorated with spiral gadroons and an engraved cross. The baluster knot is decorated with acanthus leaves and Eucharistic symbols – ears of wheat and bunches of grapes.
The bottom of the cup has a chased decoration of flowers, confronted volutes and stylized shells, characteristic of the Rococo style.
Bears under the base the hallmarks of the city of Montpellier for the year 1763 as well as that of the silversmith Marc Bazille, received master in 1732.
Presented with a paten, in gilt silver, without visible hallmark, engraved with the monogram of Christ IHS.
