- Oil on canvas.- Charles Kvapil is an important Belgian painter of the School of Paris. He was born in Antwerp in 1884 and died in Paris in 1957. He was best known as a figure painter, particularly for his depictions of nudes and bathers, influenced by Courbet. Paul Cézanne also had a strong influence on his style. He studied at the Antwerp Academy of Fine Arts before becoming known to the Parisian public at the Salon des Indépendants in 1920. The famous critic Béran wrote about the richness and pure joie de vivre of his painting.
