Biography:
Eugène MARIOTON 1857 / 1933

Eugène Marioton was a French sculptor and medalist. He was born on April 7, 1857, in Paris, where he died in the 4th arrondissement on September 19, 1933.
He was the brother of sculptor Claudius Marioton and painter Jean Alfred Marioton.

Eugène Marioton studied under Auguste Dumont, Gabriel-Jules Thomas, and Jean-Marie Bonnassieux at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1883, he presented The Daughter of Jephthah Coming to Meet Her Father, a terracotta bas-relief, at the sketch competition.
That same year, he won first prize in the Société Libre des Beaux-Arts competition with the marble bas-relief Hero and Leander, as well as a grant of 1,200 francs from the Seine General Council intended to support young, impoverished artists.

In 1884, he won first prize in the M. Willemsens carving competition. In 1888, he was admitted to compete for the second attempt at the Grand Prix de Rome in sculpture. He was awarded a travel grant for the sculpture and medal section that same year.
In 1896, he lived at 59 Avenue du Général-Michel-Bizot in Paris.

He regularly participated in the Salon of the Société des Artistes Français, and became a member of the jury in 1905 in the sculpture section. Source: Bénézit and Dictionary of Sculptors – 19th Century Bronzes
