Rare and elegant pair of vases, late 19th century, in silver-plated metal, decorated with Greek mythological masks, Aeolus, the god of the wind and finely chiseled floral decoration, signed on the bases Sormani Paris.
Empress Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III, made the company a success by decorating her palaces with Paul Sormani's creations.
Sormani presented his work at all the major national and international exhibitions, such as the 1849 Exposition des Produits de l'Industrie and the major Parisian Universal Exhibitions of 1855 and 1867, where Sormani was honoured by the juries and won the highest awards for his ‘production, which reveals a quality of execution of the highest order’.
