"The Dance Of The Credibles Of Times Past, Revolutionary Engraving 1798"
Directoire engraving, entitled "The Dance of the Croyables of Time Past", a satirical engraving relating to the French Revolution and the Croyables (poor) rather than the Incroyables (decadents). A young man plays music while seated, at his feet a loaf of bread and a fish and a man and a woman in revolutionary dress dance. The woman is clearly a "tricoteuse ( women who watched aristocrats getting guillotined) with her needles and ball of wool. All wear the cockade. Some water stains
