Henri Désiré Gauquié (1858 – 1927) is a French sculptor, student of the famous sculptor René Fache, and studied at the French Academy of Valenciennes and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, in the studio of Jules Cavelier. In 1991, he received a third-place medal and a travel grant from the Ministry of Public Education and the Arts for his sculptural composition "Perseus Vanquishes Medusa", which the State purchased for the Art Museum of Agen (the work has since been destroyed). After a year spent in Italy and Belgium, the sculptor returned to France with new creative forces and in 1890, his sculpture "Brennus" was nominated for a second-place medal. The bronze of this statue adorned the Dodenne Park in Valenciennes. 1895 The sculptor was nominated for first place at the Paris Salon for his marble sculpture group “Bacchante and Satyr”.
