"High Period Bronze Andirons "
Important pair of bronze andirons dating from the 17th century, from a castle at the gateway to the Pyrenees. Mirepoix region, the structure is made of solid hot-riveted wrought iron. The bronzes are composed of 3 pieces, the base of which is decorated with rising acanthus leaves, a virgin coat of arms, palmettes and volutes, all surmounted by a square base on which is placed the round barrel of the colon whose capital is a collar with several molded projections, all crowned by a slightly crushed bronze mass ball. These are exceptional andirons, this type of mod is found in large palaces and notably in the apartments of the Vatican. The weight is very substantial: 20 kilos for each andiron.
