"The Charnel Houses Of The Church Of Saint-gervais-saint-protais. In Simas."
Eugène Martial SIMAS was born in Paris in 1862 and died in 1939 in Saint-Julien-du-Sault. He was a painter, theater designer, interior designer, cartoonist and French illustrator, active between 1893 and the early 1930s. See the very complete chapter dedicated to him on Wikipedia. The work represents the mass graves of the Saint-Gervais-Saint-Protais church, rue François Miron in Paris. The place inspired many famous artists such as the great photographer Eugène Atget and the painter Henri Dabadie. A painting by him is kept at the Musée Carnavalet, history of Paris. (See photos). Our work is an oil on cardboard of 46 cm x 33 cm, or an 8 Landscape. Perfect condition. I present it in a very beautiful carved and patinated wooden frame of 66 cm x 53 cm. (Also in perfect condition).
