the mausoleum and the bridge of Adriano and the Castel Sant'Angelo, Saint Angel engraving, etching & chisel after Jakob Philipp Hackert (Prenzlau, 5 September 1737 † San Piero di Careggi, April 28, 1807).
18th century, dated 1796 bottom right.
Engraved by Francesco Morelli, known as François Morel (1768-1832). Born in Franche-Comté, French chisel engraver, he worked in Italy, especially in Rome, engraving religious subjects and landscapes, after Cl. Lorrain, Carracci, P. Hackert.
A very close view was also engraved by Giovanni Battista Piranèsi (1720-1778), from whom Morelli might have drawn inspiration.
