André or Antoine Criaerd, of Flemish origin, is the dean of a dynasty of Parisian master cabinetmakers.
Based in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine, his furniture of fine quality and made with great talent, all belong to the beginning of the 18th century.
Towards the end of this period, he had business relations with the manufacturer and famous furniture dealer Pierre Migeon.
The Chaalis collections bequeathed to the Institute by Mrs. Edouard André include a tomb-shaped chest of drawers in amaranth veneer decorated with bronze and framed in dark wood.
