"Large Ceremonial Ring In 18k Yellow Gold And Silver, Set With Old Mine Cut Diamonds"
Large ceremonial ring in 18-carat yellow gold and silver, set with old mine cut and rose-cut diamonds, circa 1850 Spectacular marquise ring of French work from the mid-19th century, mounted in 18-carat yellow gold for the body and the basket, and in silver for the settings. This traditional combination allowed the brilliance of the diamonds to be magnified by the contrast of the metals. The piece is centered on an imposing old mine cut diamond of approximately 1.50 carats, framed by four small rose-cut diamonds in raised areas around its base. This diamond has two visible old breaks: a small chip near one prong, and a small “fel” (crack) visible under a magnifying glass on another prong. These defects are old and stable, characteristic of old diamonds in wear jewelry. Two other old mine cut diamonds flank it: one of approximately 0.75 carats, the other of approximately 0.65 carats, with a slight asymmetry in size typical of 19th century settings. The whole is bordered by a entourage of 15 rose-cut diamonds, each weighing approximately 0.5 points, forming a luminous and lively corolla. The three main diamonds are quite included and can be considered pitted, in accordance with the custom of the time, when modern criteria for clarity had not yet been established. The openwork basket, carefully re-pierced, reveals high-quality jewelry expertise, reinforcing the presence of this ceremonial ring with remarkable wearability.
