"Gold And Silver Neck Ribbon Ornament Set With Pink “pampi” Cut Diamonds "
Gold and silver neck ribbon ornament, set with “pampi”-cut pink diamonds and spinels or rubies, late 18th century Rare gold and silver neck ribbon ornament, made at the end of the 18th century, probably in Portugal or Spain, in the Iberian tradition of joyels worn directly on the neck or at the top of the bodice. This refined jewel was intended to be attached to a silk ribbon, as indicated by the two original loops visible on the reverse, in the absence of a bail or pin attachment. The symmetrical white silver setting, punctuated with yellow gold appliques, features a late Baroque decoration with openwork scrolls and moving tassels. It is entirely set with old “pampi”-cut pink diamonds, and red stones (probably spinels or old rubies), all mounted in bezel settings. Some stones show wear or chips, typical of jewelry worn in a ceremonial context. The reverse retains its two original loops, intended to receive a silk ribbon. The jewel is preserved in its period case, in ochre embossed velvet and cream silk, testifying to its noble use and its excellent state of conservation.
