Iranian open djoval, wool, circa 1960. Authentic piece. Very good condition.

'Lur bathiari' refers to a nomadic population of Lur origin, settled in Chahar Mahal, near Mount Zagros (western Iran).
his djoval originally served as a packsaddle intended to carry the personal belongings of nomads. The djovals (large simple bags) were attached to the sides of donkeys. This piece is made with the "souf" technique (kilim, soumak and knotted stitches). Zoomorphic ram horns in the medallions.
