Description

Saint Amable, polychrome poplar wood, France, 18th century. A polychrome wooden sculpture designed to be viewed in the round, depicting Saint Amable. Saint Amable of Riom was a Latin presbyter and one of the first pastors of Riom. Tradition tells that at his voice, snakes and demons would flee. Often, images and medals depicting him bear the inscription: "Demons flee as do snakes and fire."
