Giovanni Fattori, "Charge on Horseback," India ink on paper, signed, 19th Century
Ink drawing on paper made by master Giovanni Fattori (Livorno, 1825 - Florence, 1908), one of the main exponents of the Macchiaioli current. The sheet, measuring 44 x 31.5 cm, depicts a scene of soldiers on horseback during a battle at the moment of "charge." The "charge on horseback" refers to a military action in which horsemen, often mounted on horses, attack the enemy at full speed, with the aim of breaking enemy lines and fighting at close range.
The stroke is decisive and concise, but at the same time rich in expressiveness and movement, as is typical of Fattori's graphic production.
The work is signed in the lower right corner
The drawing is framed with a period gilt frame, enhanced by a warm tone passe-partout that enhances the paper yellowed by time, giving it an authentic charm.
