Apollo And Daphne, Oil Painting On Canvas, XVIe
In his Metamorphoses, Ovid tells the myth of Apollo and Daphne, or how the god of love took revenge on the powerful Apollo who made fun of him.
To punish him for his pride, Love sets off a golden arrow from the god that makes him fall madly in love with the nymph Daphne. On the contrary, she receives a lead arrow, which inspires her the greatest repulsion towards Apollo. Refusing the latter's advances, she then flees.
This duality is thus reinforced by the choice of the colors of the linens; the red of passion and the blue of the enseasibility.
