"Important Bronze Lion With Serpent Or Lion Of The Tuileries By Antoine Louis Barye Late 19th Century"
Antoine Louis BARYE (1795-1875) important bronze representing the Lion with a serpent or lion of the Tuileries. Cast late 19th century signed on the side. Very beautiful quality of chiseling, many details, beautiful patina. In excellent condition. Dimensions: H 30 x W 38 x D 20 cm. Plaster model exhibited at the Salon of 1833. Commissioned in 1833 and purchased by King Louis-Philippe in 1836, then exhibited at the Salon of 1836 and placed in the Tuileries garden. Entered the Louvre on March 28, 1911.
