Large bouquet of mixed flowers arranged in a wicker basket. White and pink roses dominate a few peonies. G. Jeannin, the most prolific flower painter of the Second Empire, is known for the vigor of his line and the naturalness of his representations.
He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français and the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs in 1906. A bronze medal was awarded to him at the Universal Exhibition of 1889 and a silver medal in 1900. He was elected President of the Society of Flower Painters and elevated to the rank of Chevalier of the Legion of Honor in 1903.
