"Franck Sloan (1900-1984) Ruins Of Crozant 1924. Creuse Valley, Orientalist Traveler..."
Superb and rare oil/canvas by Franck SLOAN representing the ruins of Crozant in 1924, signed and dated lower left + dedicated and countersigned on the back "to Madame Parot? in memory" Format of the canvas alone 54x73cm and 58x76cm frame included This is therefore a very rare canvas by Franck Sloan representing the ruins of Crozant in 1924. Another artist who came to paint in the Creuse valley, in fact at the age of 24 this famous orientalist traveling painter immortalized in turn the ruins before the construction of the Eguzon dam. Because after the rise of the waters the Creuse valley will change completely, and many artists will then desert this place. So Franck Sloan still takes advantage of the majesty of the site by treating it with a very powerful touch, slightly hatched and above all rich in material; his palette is also very subtle thanks to a superb range of greens, mauves, pinks, grays, sky blue....We therefore mainly know this artist for his orientalist works, he painted in Morocco, Algeria, but also in Tahiti...of course in France, notably on the island of Yeu, in Paris, in Brittany, in the South etc...This canvas is in its original condition, rather good for its 100 years, some vertical cracks but not harming the work in any way, and a tiny tear of 2 cm that I will have taken up. Delivered in a simple wooden rod of the time. Work guaranteed authentic
