"Museum - Sculpted Needle Holder - Virgin And Child And Praying Figures - Folk Art"
Dating: Second half of the 19th century Origin: France Small needle case carved from corozo, depicting on one side the Virgin and Child in a hieratic posture, draped in a ribbed robe, the Infant Jesus held against her. The scene is part of a vertical, elongated composition, typical of small portable devotional objects or those associated with women's work. On either side of the base, two praying figures, dressed in popular 19th-century fashion, surround the Marian figure, in an attitude of intercession or offering. On the reverse, two other symmetrical figures hold a candle, while a pine cone or acorn motif crowns the point—a sign of life, persistence, and fertility. An object of discreet piety, probably intended to accompany the sewing kit of a pious woman or offered on the occasion of a pilgrimage or a family event (birth, communion, departure). Each figure, stylized but expressive, testifies to a desire to sanctify the everyday, to inscribe the divine in the most ordinary gestures. Dimensions: 8 cm Condition: very good condition, slight signs of use at the top, patinated surface, mini accident. ALL DELIVERIES ARE MADE BY DHL EXPRESS ONLY.
