Henri VINCENT-ANGLADE (1876-1956) Bordeaux "Young woman in a farmyard" Oil signed lower left; 81 x 60 cmAnglade was born on May 9, 1876 in Bordeaux, son of Charles Vincent. He added his mother's surname, Anglade, to his father's name to distinguish himself from his brother, the poster designer René Vincent. Vincent-Anglade was a student of Gustave Moreau, Fernand Corom and François Flameng at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, as well as of Amable Pinta. Professional life Anglade exhibited in Paris and appeared regularly at regular exhibitions, notably at the Salon des artistes français, ⁠where he received a distinction in 1903. A year later, one of his nude studies was considered "slightly violent and ferocious." The French newspaper La Revue described him in 1915 as "one of the finest artists with the pencil." Early in his career, Vincent-Anglade became a fashionable portraitist, primarily with intimate paintings of women.[9] He was a regular at greyhound and horse races and was a keen big game hunter. He was also appreciated as an animal painter.
