He practiced the same kind of painting there: naturalistic realism of beautiful quality. But he especially met Armand Guillaumin and Eugène Alluaud and it was they who influenced the painter to move towards Impressionism and work from nature. Charles Hallé applied these lessons and from then on the artist's compositions were bathed in a superb light that he knew how to capture sumptuously. A landscape painter, he became a member of the Salon des Artistes Français from 1894.
