"Gold Plated And Tortoise Shell Spyglass 5,3 Cm"
Perfectly functional spyglass by the prestigious Parisian optician Ingénieur Chevallier. Beautifully assembled in copper, varnished brass and tortoiseshell. The 1842 catalog tells us that this bezel with aclinic movement has a tortoiseshell body and gold-plated parts! Some signs of wear, including minor bumps, scratches and marks on the exterior. The monocular deploys in two stages, by the upper element and by the inner element that holds the front lens. To the naked eye, the glass lenses show no noticeable deterioration. Under the light of a lamp, some scratches and dust can be seen on the front and rear elements, with little or no impact on visibility. The lorgnette features an engraving on each tube. Upper tube: “L'ingénieur Chevallier opticien du roi vis-à-vis le marché aux fleurs N°1 à Paris”. Lower tube: “Aclinique par brevet d'invention et de perfectionnement accordé par le Roi”.
