"Sculpture Beggar No. 24 By Jacques Callot Biscuit Of Saxony Volkstedt - 19th Century Scn25bis001"
Beggar sculpture n°24 by Jacques Callot, Saxe Volkstedt biscuit - 19th century SCN25BIS001Statuette, figurine, in biscuit porcelain, presenting a beggar from the series of beggars after the series by Jacques Callot, made in Nancy in 1622-1623. This beggar is very finely sculpted, particularly the ragged and patched clothes. The biscuit is a 19th century print or around 1900, it bears a blue signature below the Saxe VOLKSTEDT factory. The Volkstedt porcelain factory, located in Rudolstadt, is the first porcelain factory in Thuringia, Germany. It was founded in 1762 and is still active under the name Aelteste Volkstedter Porzellanmanufaktur, literally "the oldest porcelain factory in Volkstedt." Jacques Callot (1582-1635) made the drawings himself, serving as a model, at the end of his stay in Florence, around 1617, then engraved them in Nancy around 1622-1623. Alexandre-Pierre-François Robert-Dumesnil (1778-1864) owned 12 original drawings, Emmanuel Meaume thinks that these drawings, made in pen, are inspired by the Italian masters. This series is one of the most copied and imitated of Callot's work and Rembrandt, who owned a collection of Callot's engravings, was strongly inspired by them for his beggars. Beautiful object for display, or office decoration, in excellent condition, without any accident. With a base framed in bronze. Small porcelain biscuit figure representing an old man eating his soup. Dimensions approximately 12 x 10 x 8 cm.
