So two very beautiful post-impressionist paintings by this excellent and famous Bordeaux painter who paints here two of his favorite subjects, the Arcachon basin and a Landes landscape. The latter is dated 1943, perhaps the same period for the pinasses in Arcachon, a mature period for the artist where he then mastered his art to perfection, his touch was then powerful and his coloring very subtle with many tones of purple, blue, green, red/orange etc... In short, two little gems...! Marius Gueit (1877-1956) is a Bordeaux painter. He was a student of Louis Cabié. He began his career as a decorative painter. In the wake of Louis Auguste Auguin, Marius Gueit soon became a recognized landscape painter. He travels through the Arcachon Basin, the Landes de Gascogne, and the Basque Country. With a real eye, Marius Gueit knows how to convey his feelings about nature in his compositions; he skillfully handles impasto, light, and shadow. Marius Gueit regularly exhibits at the Société des amis des arts in Bordeaux and at the Salon des artistes français. Today, he is one of the best painters in the southwest, alongside leading artists such as Lépine, Roganeau, Floutier, Sourgen, and Lizal, etc.
