“Reguladora” Longcase Clock – Portugal, mid-20th century
Superb longcase clock made by the renowned Portuguese manufacturer Reguladora, founded in 1892 in Vila Nova de Famalicão.This elegant piece, dating from the 1950s, is inspired by the Louis XV style, with meticulous floral marquetry, a deep wine-red varnish and finely crafted gilt ornaments. The engraved brass dial, decorated with Roman numerals, demonstrates the attention to detail.The weight-driven mechanical movement is complete and in perfect working order. The inside of the door still retains the original instruction label.
The clock plays a Westminster chime type melody as well as the “Ave Maria de Fátima”.
