"Beautiful Red Morocco By Gérardi Joannis Vossii, Works (2 Parts) With The Arms Of Rignac From 1647"
Rare copy stamped with the Arms in red morocco in small format in 4, printed in Amsterdam "Apud Ludovicum Elzévirium" M. DC. XLVII. (1647) "Gérardi Joannis Vossi": De Imitatione cum Oratoriâ, tum praecipue Poeticâ deque Récitatione Veterum Liber, & De Artis Poeticae Natura ac Constitutione Liber in the second part at the same date (passage of verses without gravity not detracting from the text and the beauty of the work from the presses of Esevier). This work with its superb binding is a typical copy of the workshops of the south of France, notably that of Corberan, the binder of Peiresc. If François de Rignac married a certain Jeanne de Fabry in 1627, she has nothing to do with his namesake from Aix, Nicolas Fabri de Peiresc, although the binding of this copy could have suggested family ties. In 1682, Colbert had received as a gift, according to Léopold Delisle, one hundred and four manuscripts from M. de Rignac, Counselor to the Court of Aids of Montpellier and heir to the books of François de Rignac. Vic and Vayssète recount in their History of Languedoc that Etienne Baluze had located the Library of "the late M. de Lignac" as early as 1677.
