Object description :

"Henri Laigneau - A Farm At Sunset"

This atmospheric Impressionist oil painting by French artist Henri Laigneau presents a rural farmstead illuminated by the fading golden light of sunset. Executed in 1912, the composition exudes a tranquil yet moody tone, with rustic buildings cast in shadow against a softly glowing sky. The textured surface and dappled brushwork suggest a Pointillist influence, revealing Laigneau's sensitivity to light and color.
Rendered in harmonious hues of blue, green, and amber, the piece reflects the artist’s fascination with natural light and quiet countryside scenes. Laigneau’s structured approach to composition and refined use of pigment lend the painting a timeless quality, inviting viewers into a serene pastoral moment.
Henri Édouard Laigneau was born on 24 August 1863 in Rambouillet, France. He studied in Paris at the Académie Colarossi and took anatomy classes at the École des Beaux-Arts. A frequent exhibitor, Laigneau participated in the official Salon from 1899, and later the avant-garde Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and the Salon des Indépendants from 1910.
Laigneau's style, shaped by the Pointillist techniques of Pissarro and the color sensitivity of Bonnard, focused primarily on landscapes and portraits. His rigorous drawing, careful construction, and chromatic richness distinguish his work. Today, several of his paintings are held in public collections in Niort, Rambouillet, and Nancy.

Remaining deeply connected to his native region, Laigneau lived in Rambouillet until his death in 1947.
