Art Deco sideboard in Sycamore veneer attributed to Alfred Porteneuve, nephew of Jacques Emile Ruhlman, of whom he was the workshop manager until the death of his uncle in 1933. In 1934 he opened his own house as a decorator and interior designer. This sideboard was located in the private mansion in the 8th arrondissement of Paris belonging to Georgette Chadourne, first wife of Jean Puiforcat. In the courtyard of this private mansion there was a "studio" as it was called at the time on one floor and a basement decorated by Jean Michel Franck and other important interior designers. Upon the death of Madame Chadourne, it was her daughter (Madame English, married in the United States) who inherited it and sold it to HL de Lagrange, who created the Gustav Mahler Foundation there.
