"China 19th Century: Makeup And Jewelry Box "
Interesting mid-19th century makeup and jewelry box, from China. It is a real little piece of furniture with complications, with multiple drawers and lockers, it has a tilting mirror (I did not manage to unlock it, wanting not to force it). It is richly decorated with copper applications, including symbols of prosperity, lucky charms (bats, yin and yang, lanterns), a whole symbolic syntax deeply rooted even today in Chinese daily life. The front doors are carved with court scenes and the interior drawers are carved and lacquered green and gold. It is made of rosewood, with its natural red background color. If it has been cleaned, it remains to unlock the large drawer and the mirror, and to redo the grip of this drawer (present but oxidized). Otherwise good general condition.
