Object description :

"Equestrian Portrait – English School / 1930s-1940s / Signed Harris / Oil On Canvas"
Superb equestrian portrait – English school, 1930s-1940s, signed HARRIS lower right. This elegant oil on canvas, 51 x 76 cm, embodies the great English tradition of equestrian portraiture, an art in which British painters have excelled since the 18th century. Remarkably fine, the work depicts an English thoroughbred, an emblematic breed of racing and the British aristocracy.
The noble posture of the animal, its finely detailed musculature and the expressiveness of its gaze testify to careful and realistic work, in the tradition of the great masters of animal painting. The bucolic landscape in the background, typical of the English countryside, adds to the majesty of the scene and reinforces the typically British character of the painting.
The artist plays with a subtle palette and delicate nuances, capturing light and depth with great mastery. An additional authenticating element: on the back of the canvas there are traces of the ink stamp of Winsor & Newton, a famous London supplier of artist materials. The work is preserved on its original canvas and frame. The painting is in excellent condition, with perfectly preserved colours and a perfectly stretched canvas.
