Pair Of Louis XV Style Gustavian Commodes, Marquetry And Gilt Bronze, 19th Century
Lovely pair of Louis XV style Gustavian chests of drawers made after the chest of drawers by the Swedish master Georg Haupt trained in Paris and then in London, its original version can be seen at the Nordiska Museum in Stockholm, Sweden.
Each chest of drawers consists of three drawers: the smaller upper drawer is decorated with a bronze frieze. The two drawers at the top open with small rings and have a rosewood marquetry decoration with a putto playing the flute in the center around which laurel garlands are wrapped or unfolded. The rounded beveled uprights are decorated with gilded bronze falls decorated with a man's head. The four legs are arched and covered with bronze sabots, the edges are hidden by stylized rushes. Very beautiful royal red marble top with a scalloped shape.
These two small chests of drawers will bring a discreet but elegant and refined presence to a large entrance or bedroom.
