"Renaissance Walnut Panel Carved With A Pietà"
Fine deeply carved walnut relief of a Pietà.
France, last third of the 16th century.
In an ancient molded walnut frame.
Panel dimensions: 37 x 28.5 cm
Frame dimensions: 45.6 x 37.6 cm
Relief in good condition, missing the index of the Virgin and the end of the medium. Missing parts of the frame on the lower molding. It is probable that the frame is original (same walnut wood) but that a strip (in oak) was added later between the frame and the relief to increase the depth.
