"18 Carat Gold Winged Chimera Pendant Brooch, Mid 19th Century"
18K Gold Pendant Brooch of a Winged Chimera, Mid-19th Century A superb, finely chased 18K gold pendant brooch depicting a winged chimera with an expressive face. This exceptional piece, made around the mid-19th century, is a magnificent example of French jewellery craftsmanship, as evidenced by its hallmarks and numbering on the back. A masterpiece of chasing The goldwork is of remarkable quality, with extremely fine and detailed chasing. Each element, from the majestic wings to the sinuous tail, is sculpted with impressive precision. The chimera's eye sockets reveal an exceptional level of detail, reinforcing its fierce and mysterious expression. At the centre of the composition, a 0.10 carat diamond is set in the creature's mouth, adding a precious and luminous touch to the whole. A transformable jewel and a substantial weight This brooch, thanks to two discreet attachments located at the back, can also be worn as a pendant on a gold chain. This system was designed expressly to accommodate small hooks to transform the piece into a necklace. The piece has a substantial weight of 19.6 grams, which is rare for a jewel of this type and testifies to its exceptional quality. Hallmarks and numbering • Material: 18 carat gold, hallmarked • Master jeweler's hallmark: diamond-shaped, with a second visible letter, a “C” • Numbered on the back, confirming the precious nature and probably the limited production of this piece Characteristics: • Period: Mid-19th century • Material: 18 carat gold (hallmarked) • Jeweler's hallmark: In a diamond, second letter “C” visible • Stone: Natural diamond of 0.10 carat • Weight: 19.6 grams (a significant weight for this type of jewel) • Dimensions: 5 cm wide x 4 cm high • Numbered on the back A jewel that attracts all eyes This type of piece does not leave one indifferent: when worn, it immediately attracts attention and arouses curiosity. Its striking design, between mystery and refinement, makes it a jewel that stands out and becomes a real topic of conversation. Important: • The chain visible in the photos is not included in the sale. It is a presentation item. • This gold chain, dating from the beginning of the 20th century, can be sold separately if the buyer is interested. The price will be communicated upon request by e-mail. Symbolism of the chimera in jewelry The chimera is a mythological figure associated with strength, duality and protection against harmful influences. In jewelry, it often symbolizes power and mystery, a very fashionable theme in 19th century creations, marked by the influence of the neo-Gothic and romantic style. An exceptional piece for lovers and collectors of antique jewelry, combining know-how, mystery and prestige.
