"“la Fleche” Empire Wall Lights, Paris, Circa 1810, Claude Galle For The Grand Trianon, Versailles"
"Arrow" wall lights Empire Paris circa 1810 Claude Galle 1756-1815 for the Château de Fontainebleau and the dining room of the Grand Trianon Versailles H. 58 cm Galle supplied a pair of similar wall lights in 1806 for the large reception room of the French Secretary of State at Fontainebleau. Memoir: "2 pairs of arms at 288 fr with 4 lights, 576 fr" (Arch. Nat. O² 500, d. 2, p. 14). Two other similar pairs in gilded bronze were delivered by Galle on December 23, 1809 for the dining room of the Grand Trianon at Versailles: "Two pairs of arrow arms, head of Diana carrying four lights chased and gilded matt gold" (Versailles, Grand Trianon, T 4006). In the inventory of Galle's stock, drawn up on April 1, 1815 after his death, we find "a pair of arms with four-armed arrows with the head of Diana".
