Painter, designer and illustrator, the work of François Claudius Compte-Calix is represented in the collections of various museums including the Musée Magnin in Dijon, the Musée Adrien-Dubouché in Limoges and the Château de Compiègne. He provided many illustration models for Les Modes parisiennes in the 1860s. According to Didier Rykner, his masterpiece would be his Sainte Élisabeth de Hongrie (1844, Issoire, chapel of the general hospital).
