Object description :

"Harry Eliott, Cake-walk"
Harry ELIOTT (Paris, 1882 – Villez-sous-Bailleul, 1959)
Cake-Walk

Brush, black ink, stencil, gouache and watercolor on paper (unique piece)
Titled lower left CAKE-WALK, signed lower right Harry Eliott
36 x 101.5 cm
Original frame in blackened and gilded wood
Dimensions with frame: 42 x 107 cm

Note: extremely rare unique piece by Harry Eliott, who had already introduced some caricatures of black characters in his hunting works and presents us here with an extraordinary cake-walk scene, the dance created by black American slaves to imitate their white masters and which became a popular dance in the music hall around 1900.
