Bronze "the Reader" - Signed A. Carrier-belleuse - 19th Century
19th-century bronze sculpture depicting "The Reader." The work is signed by A. Carrier-Belleuse, winner of the Grand Prix at the Salon des Beaux-Arts.
It depicts a young woman standing, wearing an embroidered dress, reading.
The sculpture is mounted on a 3.5 cm high round base. Overall dimensions: 41 cm high by 12 cm wide.
The artist Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse was a student of David d'Angers, exhibited from 1851, and was Auguste Rodin's teacher. He is considered one of the important sculptors of the Second Empire.
The condition is good, with minor wear noted on the back of the head.
