Virgin and Child opening like a triptych whose 2 leaves reveal the group of the Trinity : God the Father carrying Christ on the Cross and the Holy Spirit.
This type of production originates from the 15th century, very popular to support marian worship at the end of the Middle Ages. This type of sculpted pious images was destroyed by the great iconoclastic reformers of the 16th century, seeing in them supports for dangerous superstitious behavior, devoid of devotion and provoking impiety.
