Woman With Mandolin, Emmanuel Villanis (1858-1914), Bronze, Art Nouveau, Circa 1900.
Patinated bronze sculpture representing a young woman with a mandolin. The girl is dressed in a strapless dress, a shawl on her head, holding her instrument in one hand and a small container in the other. Very characteristic of the way Emmanuel Villanis represents the face.

Emmanuel Villanis (1858-1914) was a French sculptor of Italian origin. From 1871 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Turin. From the mid-1880s until the end of his life he lived and worked in Paris. From 1886 he actively participated in the annual salons and also presented his works at the universal exhibitions. His work is dominated by representations of women: biblical, mythological, historical, operatic heroines and allegories.
