Pierre Falconet (born in 1683, died circa 1750) and his son Louis (received as a master in 1743, died circa 1775) shared the same stamp, without a first name initial; it is therefore impossible to precisely attribute to one or the other the Louis XV chairs bearing this stamp. Only the rare Louis XVI style works signed Falconet can be attributed to Louis, especially since his widow kept the workshop in activity until 1782 [Kjellberg 1989, p.301]. -----
Formerly upholstered with springs, this seat needs to be reupholstered.
Reinforcements. Significant grafts on the left rear leg.
A chair of the same model in the collections of Hélie de Talleyrand-Périgord, dispersed by Christie's in 2005
