Primavera Attributed To René Buthaud (1886-1986) Large Art Deco Vase

Artist: Primavera Atelier René Buthaud
Spectacular Art Deco vase 1925 signed in hollow Primavera - Paris & stamped with the Hache for the Sainte-Radegonde factory made under the direction of the ceramist René Buthaud, artistic director of the art earthenware factory for Primavera from 1923 to 1926. Elegant structure in enameled stoneware in the shape of a baluster with a shoulder, the pear-shaped belly richly decorated with an allegorical decoration animated by steeds. Very good condition, dimensions: 39 cm high X 26 cm wide.

A prominent figure in the decorative arts of the interwar period, René Buthaud (1886-1986) became interested in ceramics at the end of his studies at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris and at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs, before being mobilized. Figurative, geometric, or abstract, his vases met with great success from the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des artistes décoratifs in 1920 where he exhibited alongside his friends Jean Dunand and Alfred Janniot. Distributed by the Rouard gallery from 1928, he participated in most of the salons as well as the major events of his time: the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in 1925, the International Colonial Exhibition in 1931 and the Exhibition of Arts and Techniques in 1937.
