Large Vase From Montières Amiens Decorated With Clematis Montieres Picardy Earthenware Factory

Pear-shaped vase decorated with purple and white clematis on a matte black background. Slightly flared neck with shiny black enamel. Signed on the belly with the same signature as that shown on the cover of the monograph on the Montières earthenware factory. Signature identified as that of Guy Dumesnil. Below, hollow mark for the model number.

Amédée Sinoquet, the youngest of the decorators, active in the earthenware factory after 1920, told us that this type of decoration bore the first name of Gabrielle, one of the daughters of Pierre Motton, then director of the factory. Page 13 of the book Montières by Michel Souchon (1987 éditions Syntaxe) a photo shows a set of vases with this type of flower decoration on a plain matte background. The book will be offered with the vase.
