Corpus Christi - Boxwood Sculpture - Venice, Late 18th Century
Wooden sculpture of exceptional elegance, finely carved in hard boxwood.
The golden patina and the shine of the precious wood essence are splendid and stand out for their particularly warm tone.
Christ is depicted crucified with his arms raised rather than in a horizontal position, following the dictates of Jansenist thought in use in the 17th and 18th centuries.
The anatomical details are carved with extreme precision and do not present the slightest lack.
